MARONEY MILE

 Date: Sunday 3rd April 2011

Great to see some many people at our swim today. The weather for the day was a perfect 25 degrees, sunny and a breath of wind, which is just what the swimmers like. The end of daylight saving is also a blessing, extra sleep on Sunday is the right tonic for good swimming.

A few of the swimmers are swimming this event for the fourth time! A special mention to the under ten swimmers who managed to finish the distance.

We had a pool full of winners today but the fastest Junior Swimmers (under 18 years) were Caitlyn Richardson (successful in defending her title from last year & had the fastest time in the overall Ladies division! AGAIN) and Ethan Garland (last time Ethan swam the event was 2009, GREAT WORK ETHAN). Senior Division was won by Erin Rapley (in training for Yepoon 1/2 ironman triathlon) and David Monti (took the opportunity to go one better this year with the absence of Mick Maroney, David knows the harder you work, the luckier you get)

The Parent Vs Kid challenge was headed by the Lumsden family of Dave, Emily and Holly. The mail on this successful team is that mum, Denise will start training on monday for next year's swim.

Another outstanding show of team spirit was displayed by

the junior swimmers in lane 9, lead by Chelsea Jackson.

But the family whose closest finish with true grit and

determination was the Haywood girls, Kate and Maddi,

who were only one secound apart even though they were

separated by two lanes

The Jackson Pharmacy, Gymea $250 prize for the swim club with the

most swimmers goes to Engadine Swim Club. Thankyou to Gary and Melinda for this

lovely prize. MST and Engadine Swim club are very thankful for all of your support.

Money raised was $153.80 which is a huge effort and will buy us three sets of stretch cords for dryland training.

Thankyou to Karen Higgs for her time with her massage table. Karen is not only a great swim coach but is a qualified massage therapist who specialises in sports injuries and tired swimming muscles.

Thankyou to Engadine Swim Club & Robbie for taking on the "flaming tirrant" which is the ELC BBQ.
